MV/LV transformers (pad-mount, dry-type, cast-resin)

Step-down transformers that take medium-voltage distribution down to the low voltage used inside a building, available in pad-mount (outdoor, oil-filled) and dry-type or cast-resin (indoor) designs.

These transformers sit between MV switchgear or E-houses (7.03) and LV switchgear and panelboards (7.05), doing the final voltage step-down before power reaches switchboards, busway, and PDUs. Pad-mount, oil-filled units are typically used outdoors or at building perimeters, while dry-type and cast-resin designs go indoors, including inside electrical rooms and E-houses, where the absence of oil simplifies fire code compliance. Unlike the large power transformers in 7.01, these are a higher-volume, more standardized product with a shorter design cycle, but a large campus still needs many of them — every hall, pod, or power block typically has its own — so aggregate demand scales directly with the number of buildings under construction rather than with a single large order. That volume dynamic makes throughput and factory capacity at transformer manufacturers a relevant constraint even though any individual unit is not as schedule-critical as a substation transformer. For investors, signals include order backlogs at mid-size transformer manufacturers, copper and electrical steel input costs and availability, and whether campus developers are standardizing designs across sites to simplify sourcing and shorten factory queues.

AI delta: Each new hall or power block needs its own set of these transformers, so campus buildout multiplies unit orders even though any individual transformer is smaller and faster to build than the units in 7.01.
