Wind reaches a data center the same way solar does — through a power purchase agreement rather than a connection — and it complements solar because its output profile is different, often stronger overnight and in winter when solar is weakest. For an operator trying to match a flat around-the-clock load with contracted renewable output, that complementarity is the whole reason to hold both. The supply side of wind is a harder industry than it looks. Turbines have grown steadily larger, which improves the economics per megawatt but means every generation requires new tooling, new blade moulds, new logistics for components that are already at the limit of what roads and ports can move, and new installation vessels offshore. Several manufacturers have taken heavy losses on warranty and ramp problems from that cycle, and offshore projects in particular have been cancelled or repriced after supply chain and financing costs moved.
