Who makes refrigerants & insulating gases for AI data centers

Refrigerant chemicals used in cooling equipment and dielectric gases used to insulate and interrupt current inside medium- and high-voltage switchgear.

This part groups two chemically unrelated but similarly regulated product lines. Refrigerants circulate inside chillers and computer-room air conditioning units, the mechanical backbone of air-cooled and hybrid thermal designs (Layer 5); insulating and arc-interruption gases sit inside medium- and high-voltage switchgear, where they let a compact enclosure safely interrupt fault current (Layer 6). Both categories are under active environmental regulation: refrigerants have gone through successive phase-downs of high-global-warming-potential chemicals, and SF6, the traditional switchgear insulating gas, is one of the most potent greenhouse gases in use, prompting several equipment makers to develop lower-impact alternatives (a sub-category of this part). AI data centers touch both sides — chiller and CRAC capacity scales with facility cooling load even where the racks themselves are liquid-cooled, because heat still has to be rejected somewhere, and the larger, denser electrical distribution behind an AI campus needs more switchgear, and therefore more insulating gas, than a conventional enterprise room. For investors, the questions are regulatory timelines (phase-down schedules set replacement- chemical demand), how quickly SF6-alternative switchgear gets specified into new builds, and which chemical makers hold the intellectual property behind the newer, lower-impact gas blends.
