Who makes fans and motors for AI data centers

Every heat-rejection device outside the building — dry cooler, adiabatic unit, cooling tower — moves air across a surface, and this part is the fans and motors that do it. It is the largest continuous parasitic electrical load in the cooling plant after the chillers, and unlike the chillers it runs whenever the site is running. The engineering has consolidated around electronically commutated motors and variable speed. Fan power varies with roughly the cube of speed, so a bank of fans held at moderate speed uses dramatically less energy than a smaller number of fans cycling at full speed to hold the same average — which is why arrays of many smaller EC fans have displaced a few large belt-driven ones on new equipment. Noise follows the same curve, and on sites near residential areas that constraint can be as binding as efficiency. AI buildouts have made this part matter more because higher coolant temperatures make dry and adiabatic cooling viable at more sites, which shifts heat rejection from compressors onto fans. What to look for is whether the supplier makes the motor, the fan, or the integrated assembly — the market splits along that line — and how the fan array is controlled, since redundancy in an array of many fans is a different and cheaper proposition than redundancy in a plant with few.
