Who makes circuit protection, fuses, surge, grounding for AI data centers

Fuses, circuit breakers, surge protection devices, and grounding systems that protect electrical equipment and personnel throughout the power chain, from switchgear down to the rack.

This is the protective layer threaded through every stage of electrical distribution described above — switchgear (7.02, 7.03, 7.05), transformers (7.01, 7.04), busway (7.06), and PDUs (7.07) all incorporate fuses, breakers, surge protection devices, and grounding systems rather than standing apart from them as separate equipment. Fuses and breakers interrupt fault current before it damages equipment or starts a fire; surge protection devices absorb transient voltage spikes, including those from utility switching or lightning; grounding systems provide the safe path fault current needs and protect sensitive electronics from stray currents. As data centers move to higher voltages, higher ampacities, and higher fault-current levels to support denser racks, the protection devices sized for that equipment become more specialized and higher-rated than standard commercial building products, and coordinating protection devices at different points in the chain — so that a fault trips only the nearest breaker rather than an upstream one — becomes a more demanding engineering exercise. For investors, this is a broad, largely commoditized product category with many qualified suppliers, so the more relevant signal is which suppliers are best positioned on the highest-current, highest-voltage end of the range where AI-scale equipment is pushing demand, rather than overall category growth.

AI delta: Higher fault currents and ampacities at AI-density power levels push circuit protection toward higher-rated, more specialized fuses and breakers than a conventional commercial building needs.
