Getting light from a fibre into a chip is a mechanical problem with optical tolerances. Getting that wrong turns a routine repair into a board replacement, and it is a large part of why co-packaged deployment has moved carefully. AI clusters raise the stakes because they concentrate an unusual number of fibre terminations into a small number of switches. What to look for is whether a design uses a detachable optical connector at the package or a permanent attach, since that choice determines the failure economics for the operator, and whether the attach process is done by the photonics vendor or by a specialist.
