Who makes tanks and thermal storage for AI data centers

A buffer tank is stored water. It sits in the loop as thermal mass, and it does two jobs that have nothing to do with each other. The first is continuity: when a chiller trips or a pump transfers, the plant needs seconds to minutes to recover, and a tank holds enough cold water to carry the load through that gap. The second is economics: a tank charged when power is cheap or ambient conditions are favourable can shave a peak later. The continuity job is the one that matters most in an AI hall, and the reason is the same as everywhere else in this layer — dense racks have very little thermal inertia of their own. An air-cooled room with a raised floor holds a usable amount of cool air; a liquid- cooled row holds almost nothing, so the ride-through has to come from somewhere else. Tank volume is sized against the generator start time and the chiller restart sequence, which makes it an electrical design input as much as a mechanical one. What to look for is stratification — a tank whose layers mix delivers far less usable capacity than its volume suggests — and where the tank sits relative to the site's redundancy scheme. The suppliers are tank fabricators rather than data center specialists, so the qualification questions are material, code compliance and site logistics.
